24" square

Pattern: Original fractal design.
Technique: Hand stitched.
Medium: Commercially printed cotton fabric.

Each year the High Fiber Diet group curates a collection of quilts for exhibition. For 2016 the theme was Make Our Mark, and the colours were neutral - black, grey, brown, white - plus less than 25% other colours. There were size options, 24" square, 24" x 42", or 42" x 24". As it takes me a long time to hand stitch my work, and I didn't have a long lead time, I opted for the smallest size.

There needed to be a "mark" in the piece. As small, or as large as wanted. I quilted my mark into one of the ready made squares at the lower edge of the piece (as seen here, 5th across and 3rd from the bottom of the image).

I embroidered a scattering of French knots in silk ribbon around the oval appliqué shapes.
