Pattern: Nine patch.
Technique: Machine pieced, button holed, hand embellished and machine quilted.
Medium: Hand dyed pima cotton and assorted buttons.
This piece was made for the Self-Portrait book of the Q&A art quilters group. The original plan was to make small quilts for people to touch at our exhibitions and it evolved into individual artwork representing each member.
As an English woman in America I am often considered rather formal and conservative. This little piece is made from a traditional quilt pattern gone mad with buttons. There are several open buttonholes to indicate not everything is buttoned up.
The conical mylar mirror is stitched onto the background with smoky nylon thread. You can see the cat reflected in the cone.
