Sorting through a pile of my hand dyed shibori cottons I noticed these red pieces that looked like torn flesh and bloody rags. Stitched together in a classic target shape they represent flesh of shot animals, bones, sinew, muscles and scales of caught fish. The bullet holes emphasise the hunting aspect of the piece. The melting clock or raw steak shape shows 13 hours to explain time's endlessness as does the unfinished edges of the piece - life goes on.

The words "Earth to earth, ashes to ashes, dust to dust, in sure and certain hope of the resurrection", has been quilted over the whole piece.

Techniques used in this piece:

  • Hand dyed fabrics using shibori method;
  • machine pieced;
  • hand appliquéd
  • hand embroidery;
  • machine quilted;
  • unbound edges;
  • shot through.
