Gouache, watercolor and ink paintings
One of the first paintings I ever sold was a watercolor. Hibiscus was the painting that launched my art career all those years ago. The date on the piece is August 18th, 1987. Never did find out who bought the painting or where it went - if anyone recognises the piece do let me know who owns it and where it is now.
After a while I found the transparency of watercolour was too soft and the vibrant atmosphere of the Caribbean was best rendered with stronger colours.
When I moved to Virginia, USA the medium was still my favourite so I continued painting in gouache. I have always liked to draw in pen and ink so it was natural to use this method in conjunction with the gouache.
Like to own a little piece of the Caribbean? While I was living there I created a series of six tiny paintings of the island Antigua. They were so sweet I had prints made out of them. They are available here - Caribbean prints.
