Thread racks in the artist's studio

Thread racks in the artist's home studio
Talking of thread, this is where I hang four wooden racks with wooden dowels to slot thread spools and cones. They are near my sewing machine so are handy. They are also under the basement window so light doesn't shine directly on them.
Silk ribbon embroidery is often included in my work and I hand dye it myself or buy hand dyed ribbon. These racks are a good place to hang the ribbon so it doesn't get kinks from folding it around a card.
These racks are from June Taylor. They are wooden with the right sized dowels to allow spools to slide on. You can fold out a piece at the back so they can stand upright. You can also put large screws in the wall and there are drilled out holes in the back to slip over the screw heads. A bit of a juggle in my case as I did it myself but the racks do all line up (pat on the back for me!)
There are two sizes of racks. One has room for sixty spools and the other size has room for thirty six cones. This is where I keep all my silk thread spools and my hand quilting threads.
For those of you who are curious about what sewing machines I own. I have only two modern machines. One is a Pfaff Jeans and Satin 6152 - a very basic working horse model. Never had any trouble with it in nearly ten years of ownership. This is the one you can see the back of in the picture.
The other is a Juki TL98E which I bought at the same time as my Grace Machine Frame. It has a longer throat than the average domestic sewing machine so I can roll up more quilt inside. This one stays in the GMF cradle all the time so I don't have to keep hauling it out. It is used as a backup when my Pfaff gets serviced.
