Hand needles for quilting, sewing and embroidery

What do you look for in a hand quilting needle? Not too sharp a point so it doesn't push through the fabric and batting quickly, pricking the supporting finger beneath. A strong shank so that it can take the stressful pushing and pulling without snapping. A eye that can be threaded without embarrassing yourself with bad words. Jean Lyle fine English needles fulfill all these needs. Each wooden case contains 10 needles.

If you want an idea of how the Jean Lyle needles compare with each other size-wise go to the comparison chart.

Special double eyed needles are used for embroidery, corded trapunto also requires unique needles.

Jean Lyle large eye quilting needles #10B

Jean Lyle large eye quilting needles #10B - 10 needles in case
So we all need a little help! The eye is longer and larger than the standard quilting needle. This is good for less than perfect eyesight. It is also good for quilting with threads which won't go through the eye of a normal sized quilting needle.

Jean Lyle #11 straw/milliners needles

Jean Lyle #11 straw needles - 10 needles in case
Wonderful for appliqué and hand piecing. I tend to use these for practically everything because I love them so much. They are very thin and eventually bend so you may prefer to use the appliqué needles as they are sturdier.

Double eye embroidery needles

Double eye embroidery needles
What a great invention! By threading both eyes the stitching is smooth. Different color threads, yarns and ribbons can be coordinated. Think of the possibilities. There are three different sizes:

#15, 1.81mm in diameter, 60mm long
#17, 1.35mm in diameter, 54.6mm long
#20, 1.07mm in diameter, 45.5mm long.

Cording needles for trapunto

Cording needles for trapunto
This is a very useful set of needles that I use for corded trapunto. Along with a needle threader there are three types of needles:

Long needle for cording straight lines, just over 5 inches long
Short needle for cording short straight lines and curves, just over 2 inches long
Ball-tip needle for cording curves. Use it like a bodkin, just over 1 inch long.
