This is the first fractal quilt I constructed. Black, grey and white with a splash of red is a classic colour combination and gave me the opportunity to experiment with technique. Despite the colouring many viewers see an underwater scene with coral fronds.

Techniques used in this piece:

  • curved pieces are seamed together by machine;
  • hand dyed red cotton is appliquéd onto the background;
  • red chenille yard is couched onto the fractal fronds;
  • fractal fronds are shadowed with marker pen;
  • the string of bobbles on the top left are stuffed hand dyed cotton.
  • machine quilted with metallic thread.

Exhibited at:

  • Venable, Attorneys at Law, Washington, DC - December 2000 to January 2001
  • George Washington University, Ashburn, VA - August 8th to September 19th, 2000.
