Suggested Books On Fractals
Just out:
There are some interesting books out there on the subject of fractals. If you would like to know more about them here are a few I have bought from Amazon.com.
Introducing Fractal Geometry by Nigel Lesmoir-Gordon, Will Rood and Ralph Edney
This was the first book I bought about fractals and thank goodness it was! The whole subject can be daunting if you are not a mathematician. This book makes fractal geometry accessible. It uses both text and graphics - definitely an appeal to visual amongst us.
The Fractal Geometry of Nature by Benoit B Mandelbrot
This is the man himself - the mathematician who brought fractal geometry to the public. Needless to say incredibly dry as it is written by a mathematician and not a bodice-ripping novel author. Probably only wildly exciting to the bean counters amongst us. I bought it because is the fractal bible and actually there are some interesting tidbits when you glance through.
Fractals, the Patterns of Chaos by John Briggs
This is a gorgeous book filled with photographs and images. Definitely worth getting a copy of this and actually reading it.
The Colours of Infinity by Ian Stewart
The book has an introduction by Arthur C Clarke who also narrated on the accompanying DVD. You might have seen the video on PBS. This is a must have if you want to grasp visually how gorgeous fractal images can be.
