Two things were all over Antigua, goats originally imported for food kept in wandering herds to eat everything in their path, and ruined sugarmills where in plantation days the sugar beet was processed.

The tough seagrape vines grow wild on the beaches and produce edible berries, they make a good jelly. The periwinkles were also plentiful and were found everywhere.
